What's Next For Kylie Minogue?

"GET OUTTA MY WAY" A FLOP? I DON'T THINK SO!

First, I can't believe that Get Outta My Way was declared a flop by critics! The song reached #12 in the UK which was disappointing to many since it was expected to debut at #1. It's a bit of shame then that the song is DOA in Australia.
Down under the stunning anthem peaked at a ridiculous #69 on iTunes and just scraped into the radio airplay chart at #42.

Get Outta My Way is the most downloaded track off Aphrodite in the US iTunes store. Keep in mind the US has always snubbed Kylie - not to mention the music available for sale on the market right now is all trash - so there has to be an error somewhere because there's simply NO WAY that Get Outta My Way could *not* have charted well. The only reason I can think it didn’t chart well is lack of airplay and a lot of the live performances for the track were wayyyy before it was released as a single.

I am happy to report that Get Outta My Way reached #1 on the Billboard Club Charts in the US. Also, this week Kylie appeared on Dancing with the Stars and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno to promote Aphrodite, and her upcoming North American 2011 Tour in the United States.

Now about the music video... the new music video for Kylie's GET OUTTA MY WAY is way way wayyyy better than the video for All The Lovers! The choreographed dance moves with the chairs... wow! I'm not sure which Kylie I like best... leotard disco Kylie, golden Goddess Kylie or Red Dominatrix Kylie... decisions decisions.

KYLIE’S THIRD SINGLE FROM APHRODITE

99% of the rumors about the 3rd single have all been rumored to be the album's title track "Aphrodite". I think that it would be an excellent single choice except I can't see the general public going along with the whole "Can You Feel Me In Stereo" or "I'm A Golden Girl - I'm an Aphrodite" parts, so I don't think that song would chart very well- unfortunately. The fans get it, mainstream would not.

Now the focus on single # 3 has shifted to "Better Than Today" and I couldn't be more excited. I fell in love with this track the moment Kylie debuted it on her North American Tour - and was extremely disappointed it was not the lead single. Everyone at the shows loved it - and the choreography was spectacular. Mind you, the version performed at the show and the single version on the Aphrodite album are different and Stuart Price totally jacked up Nerina's and Andy's original production... it's still a quality track overall and should have an easier time hitting the top 10 spot on the charts.

UPDATE: Better Than Today is the official 3rd single from Aphrodite. The official music video is out and I think the music video for Better Than Today (which was also directed by Kylie) is a fantastic music video and does the song and Kylie justice.

 
Kylie's always been about fun- the video is fun... love the "live" performance feel to the video, yet we know it's still a music video with fantastic music-video effects... you can tell Kylie was genuinely having fun making the video with her touring crew and the microphone stand dancing is brilliant (thank you Tony!) and pacman and pink shoulder wigs make the video unforgettable. Is the video as high-tech and catchy as Cant Get You Out Of My Head? No. But it doesn't need to be. We just need tomorrow to be better than today... and this video accomplishes that thought.

I know a lot of Kylie's gay fans are advocating for "Cupid Boy" as a single and it may end up happening, but I would prefer "Put Your Hands Up" or "Can't Beat The Feeling" to "Cupid Boy" and am really hoping that "Better Than Today" IS single #3.

I would also like to see RUFFLE MY FEATHERS as a B-SIDE (hello anyone out there in Camp Kylie?) as it could have fit nicely on Aphrodite. The album's third single is due out November/December 2010.

THE FUTURE… WHATS NEXT FOR KYLIE AFTER APHRODITE?

After Kylie’s 2011 Aphrodite Les Follies Tour wraps up and the Aphrodite chapter comes to a clos, what’s next for Ms. Minogue? I’m here with my wishlist. First, I would like to see a Live “Aphrodite Tour” album and DVD package ala “Fever2002” and “X2008” Tours. Then I would like to see Kylie release 4 unique albums…

Kylie Minogue: Duets
The first album I would like is a “Duets” album featuring new and old duets (she already is off to a good start having recorded duets with Keith Washington, Taio Cruz, Robbie Williams, Jason Donovan, Pet Shop Boys and Nick Cave over the years.)

Christmas with Kylie
I would like to see Kylie release a Christmas / Holiday album. Kylie’s recorded two festive tracks- “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” for Band Aid and an amazing Marilyn Monroe-ish remake of Eartha Kitt’s “Santa Baby”. Many artists put out a holiday album, and in Kylie’s career she’s yet to put one out… I think Christmas 2011 is a good time to finally do this.

I’d love to add a full Kylie Christmas album to my holiday music collection. It's an easy sell for Kylie since people are fond of holiday albums.

The Kylie Minogue Jazz LP
On Kylie’s DVD documentary “White Diamond” Kylie recorded several Jazz tracks including a remake of “Diamonds (Are a Girls Best Friend”), a track called “Try Your Wings, "I'm Hip", "You Are There", and a previously unheard 2002 Madonna penned track given to Minogue (by co-writer Rick Nowels) titled, "Alone Again", is also featured on the to the documentary. “I Put A Spell On You” a track which remains unreleased.

A Jazz album would display a more grown-up sound to reflect how Kylie’s sound has matured. Kylie has mentioned in interviews that ‘An acoustic album or performance would be fun.’ So this idea might not be too far off.

Kylie was on the brink of recording a cover album of songs by the late US jazz singer Blossom Dearie, who died last year. ‘There are so many things floating around. I wanted to do a Kylie Sings Blossom album and I actually met Blossom Dearie just before she died,’ she told Attitude magazine. ‘We had to track her down, I wanted her to play piano or have something to do with it,’ Minogue said of the failed plans. ‘I started recording her songs. A couple ended up on the White Diamond soundtrack because they sounded great,’ she said.

Kylie Minogue: Unreleased / B-Sides
Hundreds of unreleased, rare and b-side tracks have been recorded over the years and have yet to see the light of day such as "I'm Just Here For The Music", "White Diamond (Radio Edit)", "Boombox", "Ruffle My Feathers", "Flower", and so on.

Occasionally, a track leaks online and fans rejoice but why not pick out a dozen or more tracks that have already been recorded and release them as a package for fans to enjoy? The tracks are not making money for anyone when they are just sitting on the shelf… and since they are demos, and unreleased tracks it could be issued in a limited release just for the fans- possibly at a higher retail price point?

These tracks are begging to be released! Between B-sides and Unreleased Tracks, Kylie Minogue has the probability of another INSTANT HIT ALBUM (think “Fever” all over again) just sitting on the shelves inside Parlophone. Those tracks are the makings of an INCREDIBLE Kylie album!

So now we anxiously await information about Kylie's 2011 US Tour and can't wait to see what Kylie has in store for 2011 and beyond. We'll have to revist this post in a year or two and see if any of my predictions / wishes came true.
